“Bartlett said the fund allows PRIDE to help “when somebody calls up in the middle of the winter and says their pipes are frozen and they have to get their children off to school — it’s direct, immediate support to homeowners.”

“Housing and people in Ticonderoga are both aging, making these repairs more critical. Over 80% of Ti housing is more than 40 years old, while elderly people make up more than 30% of the population.

“PRIDE is also deeply involved in mainstreet and economic development in Ticonderoga, supporting businesses, buildings, infrastructure and features of historical and aesthetic appeal. “You would be hard-pressed to drive through Ticonderoga and not see a building that PRIDE has touched,” Bartlett said.

“And after more than a decade of work, it appears construction of the French Sawmill overlooking Bicentennial Park is close to becoming a reality. The working mill, built to 18th century specifications, would be a tourist draw and also provide stock to local artisans.

“Bartlett said she expects the final design to be ready this month, at which point discussions can begin on groundbreaking and operations.”
